Does makeup with SPF in actually have sufficient UV protection?

Hey my little Brushaflies and welcome back to my blog, Brushafly Mua 🦋 Today’s blog post is about whether makeup with SPF in actually has sufficient UV protection! Is has been somewhat of a myth for many years, does it? Doesn’t it? Well… Let me tell you…

Well, you would think that buying a product, a makeup product that states that it has say SPF 30 within its structure would be good for you and that you could just Slather that foundation, moisturiser, or a tinted moisturiser on and that would be enough to keep you safe during the day and protect you from the suns rays and help protect your skin from premature aging, but it is a false sense of security that many of us have fallen for and replied on. I mean I used to believe it to, I would buy it, apply it and not think any more of it but it is just a myth.

The amount you would need to apply to make it actually protect you would have to be applied by the shovel load. And although the products that claim to have SPF included in them are probably tested similarly to sun creams, they will most likely not hold enough SPF per drop because it is mixed with something else, plus it may not be able to hold up as strongly against rubbing or be as water resistant. So although you may get some protection, it may not be at the same level as a proper skin loving sun cream / sunscreen. Your tinted moisturiser with added SPF might help protect you whilst running errands in the car and just popping to the shops, but against the full sun in your lunch break down the park, not so much.

What’s the solution to this?

Layer up, use a lightweight sun cream / sunscreen underneath your face makeup, an SPF 30 is best. Then add on your SPF added makeup on top for added protection. Make sure to cover the tops of your ears too because they do ouch when they burn!!!

No 7 do a great under makeup SPF, as do La Roche-Posey and Garnier.

I hope this blog post has helped you to understand SPF in makeup a little better and how best to protect your skin. If you did enjoy my blog post then why not follow my blog and keep up to date with all things makeup and beauty. Take care my Brushaflies and speak soon xoxo
