Hey my little Brushaflies and welcome back to my blog, Brushafly Mua 🦋 Today’s blog post is about the XX Revolution Light Up eyeshadow palette and lipgloss… Which I was lucky enough to receive for mothers day from my lovely husband and baby girls.
So, you might be wondering what is light up about this collection? Does it mean light up as in dewy and glowy in the application and look on the skin? Or is it something else? Well, it is called light up because the actual packaging itself lights up when you open it. Literally, you open the lid on both the eyeshadow palette and the lipgloss and a bright light comes on.
Do I think the light is needed? Is it a good idea? What could it be good for?
I actually really liked this design in packaging, the lights are a nice touch and makes it look incredibly boujie and expensive. Whilst the price point is a little on the dear side for Revolution, it is Revolutions sister brand XX Revolution, whose products do tend to be a little more on the expensive side compared to the brands sister brands products which are very drugstore based. The price is £20 for the eyeshadow palette, which for 8 shades is dear, but with the plush and more expensive packaging and the lights I personally think is ok. The lipgloss is £10, which is ok based on the light and packaging, but although I actually really like the gloss, it is just a clear gloss with a few sparkles in, which was a little disappointing but not the end of the world. If I had to price the lipgloss myself I would have suggested £8. Whilst I don’t think the lights are needed it is a fun little gimmick, and I could totally see makeup lovers using this when on a night out (when we are allowed out again that is).
So we have chatted about the packaging and the lights which I enjoyed and liked, lets talk about the products themselves and the formulas inside them.
The eyeshadow palette is actually blooming lovely. The colour story is perfect, it’s got a neutral tone and a pink tone to it which is great for someone who loves to make very glam looks. The mixture of mattes and metallics is good, there is enough of each to create a range of looks from smokey eyes to halo eyes. The mattes apply lovely, they are blendable and build-able and have plenty of pigment in them. The only one shade that I wasn’t overly impressed with was the white shade as it was a little on the chalky side, but in saying that it does work in brightening or pale-ing up a shade, you just have to be careful and tap off your brush properly when using it. The metallics were gorgeous and definitely popped vibrantly with a dampened brush with setting spray. Overall I was extremely happy with this palette and I can see myself using it on many occasions.
The lipgloss was actually really nice, it tasted fresh and fruity, was not too sticky and felt silky smooth on the lips. It is a clear ish gloss called Glimmer with sparkles in, which on their website is not the clear gloss but its not got pigment in. The only downside for me was the packaging made it look like the gloss was going to be bigger than what the actual gloss inside was. But, in saying that it does mean I will use it up quicker and it shouldn’t go to waste or go bad before I reach the end of it.
Overall I’m very impressed with the light up collection and I really enjoyed using it. The pinky lilac colour of the outer packaging is so cute and right up my street.
Do I think you need it?
Revolution probably have a cheaper palette with similar shades in, so no you don’t need this one necessarily, but I do like the lights and think it is fun and makes a cute change. So if you are looking for something cute, new and somewhat gimmicky then maybe it is for you. It could also possibly suit people who commute very early in the morning so its still dark and the lights will help them to do their makeup on their commute, for that purpose it could be very handy. I actually love my palette and gloss, and I can’t wait to create some more looks using it.
